Fly from your homeport to the city of Adelaide, South Australia on the day before your tour begins. A transfer will take you to your hotel for your overnight stay. The rest of your day is at leisure for you to explore the city.

There’s plenty to see and do in Adelaide – why not take a tour of the famous Adelaide Oval, a stroll down Rundle Mall or take a short tram ride to the seaside suburb of Glenelg. If you are arriving in Adelaide in the morning, you may also wish to take a half day tour to the McLaren Vale wine region or to the picturesque Adelaide Hills. Tonight, we recommend dining at one of the many restaurants in the city or in the seaside suburb of Glenelg.

Day 1 – Adelaide to Peterborough via the Flinders Ranges (D)

Travel via Adelaide’s northern suburbs including Elizabeth, home of Australia’s Holden Cars. At Kapunda we can still see the former home of Sir Sidney Kidman “Eringa” which was built by the famous “Cattle King” himself. It now serves as a building for the Kapunda High School. After morning tea we continue via the old outback townships of Marrabel and Saddleworth to the old copper mining township of Burra.

Burra is often referred to as ‘Little Cornwall’ and is one of the prettiest towns in the land. We continue to the old railway town, Peterborough, once an important stop for the Steam Trains on the way to Sydney.

This evening, enjoy the award-winning Sound & Light Show at the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre. You will sit comfortably in a restored 1916 historic rail carriage which is placed on an 85 foot long, 3 gauge turntable. Move through the tunnels of time to learn about Peterborough, about railways in South Australia and about the many fascinating personal stories associated with it.
