Pre-Tour Arrangements for Interstate Travellers

Fly from your homeport to the city of Adelaide, South Australia on the day before your tour begins. A transfer will take you to your hotel for your overnight stay. The rest of your day is at leisure for you to explore the city.

There’s plenty to see and do in Adelaide – why not take a tour of the famous Adelaide Oval, a stroll down Rundle Mall or take a short tram ride to the seaside suburb of Glenelg. If you are arriving in Adelaide in the morning, you may also wish to take a half day tour to the McLaren Vale wine region or to the picturesque Adelaide Hills. Tonight, we recommend dining at one of the many restaurants in the city or in the seaside suburb of Glenelg.

❱ Hotel stay: Mercure Grosvenor Hotel or similar (1 night)

Day 1 – Depart Adelaide on the Indian Pacific (LD)

Boarding The Indian Pacific in Adelaide, take in the striking, ever-changing landscape of South Australia heading East towards Sydney.

Over lunch, watch as pastures dissolve into tough mallee scrub on approach to Broken Hill. Known as the Silver City, Broken Hill is one of Australia’s legendary Outback bases defined by its wide streets, country pubs and ties with the Royal Flying Doctors Service and School of the Air. Here, you can visit the late Pro Hart’s art studio or head for the Miners’ Memorial where the stark reality of working in Broken Hill’s mines over the ages is writ large. The striking architectural edifice and spectacular view over the city add emotional weight to the list of more than 800 miners who lost their lives on the job.

❱ Rail journey: Indian Pacific Train (1 night)

Day 2 – Arrive in Sydney (BL)

Wake up and enjoy breakfast as you wind your way into the heart of the magnificent Blue Mountains. Arriving at Mount Victoria station, you have the option to disembark and explore the world-heritage listed national park.

Your first stop is Scenic World, offering a range of experiences for nature lovers, bushwalkers and thrill-seekers. Strap yourself in for an adrenalin-fuelling ride on the steepest-incline railway in the world before catching your breath and journeying back to the top of the mountain in a cable car. Take in the panoramic views of the Three Sisters from within the Skyway and further immerse yourself in the scenic Jamison Valley.

After all this excitement and mountain air, you’ll no doubt have worked up an appetite. Drive on to The Lookout Restaurant where you’ll enjoy lunch with award-winning beers and wines, not to mention more picturesque views. From Katoomba, board a privately chartered train and be whisked away to Sydney Central Station. On arrival, walk across to your hotel to check-in.

❱ Hotel stay: Rendezvous Hotel Sydney Central or similar (7 nights)

Days 3 to 8 – Sydney

Enjoy 6 full days at leisure to explore the city of Sydney. There’s plenty to see & do in the city – take a stroll along Darling Harbour, go shopping in the historic Queen Victoria Building or explore Circular Quay & the Sydney Opera House.

Alternatively, you may wish to join a day tour to the surrounding regions including Bondi Beach, Manly, the Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley & the South Coast. Ask us for more details (extra cost applies).

Day 9 – Board the Majestic Princess (D)

This afternoon, you will be transferred from your hotel to the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay to board the new Majestic Princess. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure onboard the ship before it sets sail through Sydney Harbour.

❱ Ocean cruise: Majestic Princess (6 nights)

Day 10 – At Sea (BLD)

Enjoy a full day at sea to take advantage of the many activities available onboard the Majestic Princess.

Day 11 – Hobart (BLD)

Tasmania’s capital has much in common with Sydney. Founded but a few years later, Hobart also owes its origins to the establishment of a penal colony – and its natural setting is just as impressive. Seen from its fine deep-water harbor, Hobart spills over the lower reaches of the Derwent Valley as Mt. Wellington towers in the background. Much of the city’s heritage is centered on the historic waterfront. North of the city stretches the vast parkland of the Queen’s Domain. Many of Tasmania’s other attractions are within easy reach of Hobart.

Day 12 – At Sea (BLD)

Enjoy another full day at sea to take advantage of the many activities available onboard the Majestic Princess.

Day 13 – Melbourne (BLD)

Victoria may be Australia’s smallest continental state, but Melbourne, its capital, is big on everything. With a population of 4.25 million people living in 59 separately named communities within 715 square miles, Melbourne is a sprawling city offering culture, art, fashion and friendly, sports-minded Australians. It is also an easy city to explore. At the heart of the city is the Golden Mile, the city’s governmental and commercial center, home to hotels, shops, restaurants and theaters.

Day 14 – At Sea (BLD)

Enjoy a final full day at sea to take advantage of the many activities available onboard the Majestic Princess.

Day 15 – Arrive in Adelaide (B)

Sadly, today marks the end of your Rail & Sail Holiday. Disembark the Majestic Princess after breakfast this morning.
