Adelaide travellers: This morning passengers will be picked up from home and transferred to your coach departure point at the Adelaide Central Bus Station. Onboard the coach relax and enjoy your travels in air conditioned comfort, as you tour through country South Australia and Victoria to Melbourne. The tour takes you through Horsham and Ballarat during the day. Refreshment stops will be made during your travels. On arrival in Melbourne check into the Mercure North Melbourne. This evening welcome dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant.
Melbourne travellers: Meet your fellow travellers at the Mercure North Melbourne for a welcome dinner tonight.
Other travellers: Fly from your homeport to the city of Melbourne. A transfer will take you to your hotel for your overnight stay. The rest of your day is at leisure for you to explore the city.
❱ Hotel stay: Mercure North Melbourne or similar (1 night)
After breakfast, we begin our journey travelling North to Tumut the gateway to the spectacular Snowy Mountains. We tour to Albury, and after a break we continue via Holbrook to the old gold mining town of Adelong. This small town has many historic buildings in the main street which have remained untouched since the 19 centuries. By 1860 the population here had grown to 20,000 people due to the gold rush. Adelong is our entrance into the Snowy’s just before our arrival into Tumut where we check into our accommodation. Later we enjoy dinner in the restaurant.
❱ Hotel stay: Best Western Farrington (1 night)
This morning we enjoy sights of Tumut before our tour begins into the stunning Kosciuszko National Park. As we tour along the Alpine Highway the amazing beauty of the area become apparent. We pass through Talbingo and then visit the Yarrangobilly Caves. The Yarrangobilly Caves have been formed over different time periods, from several million years ago to a few hundred thousand years.
After a picnic lunch from the bakery, we continue to Adaminaby. The little settlement is one of the highest towns in Australia and the local area is said to be the inspiration for Banjo Patterson’s Man from Snowy River poem. The construction of the massive Lake Eucumbene made it necessary to relocate the original Adaminaby in 1959.
Arrive into Cooma late afternoon, we visit the Avenue of Flags which was erected to honour workers from 27 countries who helped complete the Great Snowy Mountains Project. At Cooma, we also visit Cooma Park to see the remains of the Southern Cloud Aircraft which crashed near Cooma in 1931. As well, a statue to honour Banjo Patterson has been erected in the Park. Tonight, we enjoy dinner at our hotel.
❱ Hotel stay: Sovereign Inn (1 night)
After breakfast we visit the Hydro Discovery Centre where we learn all about the awesome and largest engineering project ever undertaken in Australia at the time. Later we arrive into Canberra our Capital City! Here we visit new Parliament House for a tour and have opportunity to view some of the country’s most expensive and noted art works. We also enjoy lunch at the Parliament House café before setting off to the National Art Gallery. Here we enjoy the collection of Australian historic treasures and art works. Later at the Australian War Memorial we take a guided tour and will thrill and perhaps be saddened on learning about the great stories of brave actions by many Australian diggers. We check into our accommodation and later enjoy dinner in the restaurant.
❱ Hotel stay: Alpha Hotel (1 night)
After breakfast, we begin by touring to Batman’s Bay one of the most popular towns along the East Coast. We tour South to Moura and then onto Narooma. Later our journey takes us slightly inland to the township of Bega which is well known for its cheese production. We head back towards the coast travelling to Merimbula, Eden and onto Mallacoota for our stay. On arrival we check into our accommodation and later enjoy dinner in the restaurant.
❱ Hotel stay: Mallacoota Hotel (2 nights)
After breakfast, we travel to the Mallacoota wharf to board the historic ‘Loch Ard’ for a unique cruise into a magical wilderness area. The cruise takes us deep into a pristine wonderland within the Mallacoota/Gypsy Point waterways and into the lower reaches of the Wallagaraugh River. The cruise ventures into perhaps the most remote corner of Victoria! See Rare Sea Eagles and Eastern Water Dragons together with an abundance of birdlife in their natural habitat.
We enjoy a picnic lunch during the cruise which is often enjoyed to the sound and the company of the Bell Mynah and Lyrebird Orchestra!
You will be fascinated as you explore the remains of Mallacoota’s World War 2 airfield with a local historian and discover an old communications bunker hidden within the forest. Later time is available to take a stroll through a peaceful rainforest in the Croajingalong National Park. On arrival we check into our accommodation and later enjoy dinner in the restaurant.
After breakfast, we begin a leisurely tour following the Princess Highway through the tall timber forest country alongside the Alfred National Park to Cann River. Later we continue to the township of Orbost arriving at Lakes Entrance for a lunch stop. Leaving Lakes Entrance, we pass the popular vast waterways and lakes area around Metung then tour onto Sale before traveling to Welshpool and onto Forest. Here, on arrival we check into our accommodation and later enjoy dinner in the restaurant.
❱ Hotel stay: Wilsons Promontory Motel, Foster (1 night)
After breakfast today, we set off to one of Australia’s most beautiful and natural coastal reserves, Wilsons Promontory. ‘The Prom’ is the Southern most tip of mainland Australia. With spectacular scenery including huge granite mountains, open forest, sweeping beaches and coast lines the National Park is one of the most popular in Victoria. There many scenic walks here which are suitable for all fitness levels. Today a picnic lunch will be provided for you to relax and enjoy Australian native animals which can often be seen wandering nearby. Those who wish to have the opportunity to hand feed the stunning Crimsons colored Rosella’s which visit the picnic area. After leaving the National Park we continue our journey to Melbourne travelling via Leongatha, Korumburra and Koo-wee-Rup to Melbourne. On arrival we check into our accommodation and later enjoy dinner in the restaurant.
❱ Hotel stay: Mercure North Melbourne or similar (1 night)
Adelaide travellers: After breakfast, we depart Melbourne for our journey to Adelaide. The tour travels through Victoria’s Western district on its travels to South Australia. Refreshment and comfort stops will be made along the way. On arrival in Adelaide passenger will be transferred home.
Melbourne travellers: Sadly, today marks the end of your Snowy Mountains adventure. Your tour ends after breakfast this morning.
Other travellers: You will be transferred to Melbourne Airport for your flight home.
