Your journey begins with a flight to Cairns in Tropical North Queensland. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the luxurious Novotel Cairns where you will be staying for the next 5 nights. The rest of your day is at leisure for you to explore more of Cairns.
❱ 5 nights: Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort
★ Spend a day on picturesque Green Island Reef with an included choice of popular scenic activities.
Your day begins with a cruise from Cairns to picturesque Green Island with expert commentary from your onboard guide. On arrival, board a glass bottom boat and see the brilliantly coloured fish & coral that the reef is renowned for without getting wet! View the diversity of the reef’s coral gardens and their wonderful array of sea life and learn all about the different types of corals and fish found in the area. Alternatively, you may wish to join a guided snorkelling experience along the reef. All equipment hire costs are included with your tour.
★ Indulge on a delicious lunch aboard the ‘Big Cat’ before exploring the underwater world aboard a semi-submarine cruise.
Seated below water level, you will be treated to a diver’s view of the coral reef & marine life with informative commentary by the crew and a lively fish feeding. Enjoy some time at leisure to relax on the island before cruising back to Cairns.
★ Experience the Kuranda Scenic Rail, one of the world’s most breathtaking train rides! travelling through hand hewn tunnels & across bridges whilst enjoying spectacular views along the way.
This historical rail journey will take you on a journey through hand-hewn tunnels, across bridges & curves whilst showcasing the breathtaking views across the cane fields of Cairns. Stop at Barron Falls to watch the amazing waterfalls before arriving at the picturesque Kuranda Railway Station. Here, you will have time to explore the popular Heritage markets which is filled with colourful and interesting arts and crafts. You might also like to visit Birdworld, the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary or the Kuranda Koala Gardens (own expense).
★ Later, board the Skyrail for your 7.5km journey over and through World Heritage protected rainforest to Smithfield.
Glide over ancient rainforest and take in the spectacular views with time at both Red Peak and Barron Falls Stations. A coach will meet you on arrival at Caravonica Lakes to transfer you back to your hotel.
Enjoy a full day at leisure to explore more of Cairns. You may wish to take a short walk to the nearby Cairns Lagoon, a 4,800 square metre salt water swimming facility that offers an all-year round safe swimming location without stingers & crocodiles. Alternatively, you may wish to visit the Cairns Aquarium which is located next to your hotel. The aquarium is the only one in the world that is dedicated exclusively to the habitats & species of Tropical North Qld.
★ Be treated to an escape into World Heritage Rainforest. The Daintree & Cape Tribulation National Park is one of the most significant in the world.
Visit Mossman Gorge Centre and enjoy morning tea before boarding the shuttle for your transfer into Mossman Gorge to learn about the secrets of one of the world’s oldest rainforests. Cruise on the Daintree River, home to the estuarine crocodile, where you’ll spot local wildlife and unique plants. Enjoy a tropical lunch set amongst the rainforest then stroll on Cape Tribulation Beach. Stop for an afternoon refreshment included at the Daintree Ice Cream Company (gluten free and dairy free options available). Wind through the rainforest to the Alexandra Range lookout and enjoy views over the Daintree River estuary and beyond to the Coral Sea. We tour back to Cairns, arriving at about 7.30pm.
Sadly, today marks the end of your Queensland adventure. A transfer will take you from your hotel to Brisbane Airport in time for your flight back to Adelaide.
